Pommes Schranke
Pommes Schranke is true Ruhrpott love: chips served with ketchup and mayo. Red and white, just like a train barrier. A combo that fills the belly and fuels you for whatever’s next.
Currywurst
The rightful queen of fast food in the Ruhr region. Choose your sauce – spicy or mild, tangy – served with chips or a roll. It’s legendary for a reason.
Frikadelle with mustard
Frikadelle is always a good idea – meatballs that are tender, juicy, and simply heavenly. But wait! If you want to eat it the Ruhrpott way, slap on some mustard – the hotter, the better!
Bütterken
Cereals and porridge not your thing? The perfect Bütterken looks like this: a simple slice of rye bread (no thicker than 15mm), buttered, and topped with either sausage or cheese. Plural (in case one’s not enough): Bütterkes.
Reibekuchen
A crispy potato dream! Reibekuchen are little potato fritters – crisp on the outside, soft inside. Best enjoyed with apple sauce. Guaranteed it will be love at first bite.
Grünkohl and Mettwurst
It’s like the cosiest hug on a plate. Slow-cooked kale, full of flavour, meets robust Mettwurst sausage – not just good, but next-level deliciousness.
Pinkel and Sauerkraut
Pinkel sausage meets classic sauerkraut. Together they create a dish that belongs in every Ruhrpott home. Hearty, warming, and oh-so tasty.
